The Collective System of Alternative Management of Excavation, Demolition, Construction Waste (SSED) Apostolakis Emm. & SIA O.E., with the distinctive title “DIAS Recycling System SSED”, was created and has been operating in order to achieve waste management (SSED), according to the standards set by current Greek and European legislation.
The System DIAS is approved by the Hellenic Recycling Agency (numb. of appr. 535/1-4-2014) and in its geographical scope you can find the Heraklion and Lassithi prefectures of the District of Crete. In this context, it provides comprehensive services of alternative management of AEKK in the above prefectures, ensuring an important reduction in negative environmental impact, which is caused by the production of the specific waste, through its recycling and finally its exploitation.
What is the alternative management of SSED
The excavation, construction and demolition waste is among the heaviest and the most voluminous that is produced in European Union territory. It mostly comes from activities such as building and construction engineering projects, public or private. In its majority it consists of materials that can be recycled, such as concrete, bricks, metal, glass, wood, etc.
The alternative management of SSEDhas become an important priority for the European Union, aiming on one hand at the reduction of negative environmental impact from its inappropriate management, on the other hand at its recycling and reuse, since some of these materials are very valuable.
The system aims at organising and implementing the alternative management of SSED in the prefectures of Heraklion and Lassithi, based on the standards set by the current legislation (law 2939/01 and ΚΥΑ number 36259/1757/Ε103/2010, about collecting, transporting, processing and exploiting AEKK, as well as the legislative provisions that apply each time and that are issued by the authorising acts of paragraphs 4 and 5 of the law 2939/01).
More specifically, the system includes the following operations:
- The appropriate management of SSED (collection, transportation and storage of SSED and not-hazardous waste)
- The creation, operation or/and cooperation with licenced units of storage – treatment of SSED
- The exploitation of SSED materials, with rehabilitation of inactive & active quarries and reconstruction of spaces
- The publication of informative material (electronic and printed)
- The organisation or participation in informative events about promotion and publicity of the system and in any project and activity relevant with the previous
In order to achieve its goals, the system collaborates with authorised Recycling Units of SSED, which provide the management services of SSED as foreseen by the legislation, as well as with the liable Administrators, that is the contractors of the public and private projects or the master of the project, if it hasn’t been assigned to a contractor.
